| Stora Enso announces curtailment of paper and board production by around 490 thousand tonnes in Q4 2008 |

Stora Enso has curtailed paper and board production by about 490 thousand tonnes in the 4Q 2008 to match weaker demand and reduce inventories in the quarter, the company said.
The company noted that the curtailment is a reduction equivalent to about 15% of its paper and board production capacity, pulp production by about 240 thousand tonnes and sawnwood production by 300 thousand cubic meters.
Stora Enso specified that the production curtailments and wood inventory writedowns had a clearly unfavourable impact on its 4Q earnings.
Significant paper and board production curtailments as well as curtailments in pulp and sawmill operations will be continued during the first half of 2009, in addition to the curtailments in wood products, owing to the weakened demand of the company's products.
